Zahid: Probe papers on Mahathir with AG
The former Prime Minister was being investigated for possible criminal defamation in the wake of efforts to unseat Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak.
(Free Malaysia Today) – The police, following two reports made in Klang and another in Jinjang against former Prime Minister Mahathir Mohamad, have opened investigation papers on the complaints under section 500 of the Penal Code.
The possible charge is criminal defamation.
Home Minister and Deputy Prime Minister Ahmad Zahid Hamidi confirmed, in a written reply in Parliament, that the report made in Jinjang had already been submitted to the Attorney-General’s Chambers (AGC).
“The investigation papers have been referred to the AGC on October 9 for further instructions.”
“The other two reports will be referred to the deputy public prosecutor for review and further instructions after the investigations are completed.”
