‘Lets go to court,’ PAS member tells Kuala Kerai MP
(The Rakyat Post) – Kuala Krai PAS member Ali Omar, 28, has insisted that he would not apologise to Kuala Krai MP Dr Mohd Hatta Ramli (pic) and is willing to meet with the politician in court.
This came after Ali received a legal notice from Mohd Hatta’s lawyer on Sept 13 and was asked to make a public apology on social media and newspapers.
He was also asked to pay RM3 million in compensation for allegedly defaming the MP.
Ali had claimed that Mohd Hatta committed adultery after violating the bai’ah oath made by PAS Kelantan cadidates during the last general election (GE), which allegedly states that if they leave the party, they would also automatically divorce their wife.
Furthermore, Ali claimed that the legal action taken by Mohd Hatta was a move to silence the voters in Kuala Krai from speaking and criticising the latter’s “betrayal” towards the Islamist party by joining Parti Amanah Negara (Amanah).
“As a voter and a party officer in Kuala Krai, I would like to restate that the Kuala Krai parliamentary seat belongs to PAS and was won based on the voters’ desire for PAS — not in the name of Pakatan Rakyat as he (Mohd Hatta) claims.
“Proof of this is that PKR’s seats in Machang, Ketereh and Tanah Merah (where PKR contested) were lost, even though PAS won at the State Assembly (DUN) level,” he said at a press conference here today.
He explained that Mohd Hatta often said people had voted for Pakatan Rakyat and not PAS in order to legitimise his position as the MP.
Ali added that the issues he brought up were not defamatory but rather urged for the preservation of the dignity of Mohd Hatta and the latter’s family and to uphold the laws of Islam.
Ali said his action in questioning Mohd Hatta’s marital status were based on the statement made by Syariah head judge Datuk Daud Mohamad.
“I fully support the judge’s proposition for Mohd Hatta to reinstate his marital status at the Syariah Court, following the pronouncement of the divorce.
“The divorce pronouncement has become a national issue and debated by the public.
“Thus, it is important that the matter be brought to court to obtain a clear resolution.”
He added that a 14-day notice, that begins today, would be served on Mohd Hatta requesting that the MP refer to the the pronouncement of divorce with the Kelantan Syariah Court or any other authorised courts.
He said that if Mohd Hatta failed to do so, he would be forced to report the issue to the Kelantan Islamic Affairs Department (Jaheik) for them to take action.
