MACC delivers a sucker punch
Anyway, with Umno’s and Barisan Nasional’s election strategies now in the hands of the MACC, it would be a matter of time before all these secrets fall into the hands of the opposition (if that has not already happened) considering that in Malaysia there are no secrets.
THE CORRIDORS OF POWER
Raja Petra Kamarudin
In a previous article, I wrote that a major offensive is going to be launched against Prime Minister Najib Tun Razak over the next month or so (READ HERE). I also wrote that Tengku Razaleigh Hamzah had met up with Najib to spill the beans while the Pigeon Tan Sri flew to London to meet their operatives in the UK to deliver documents and data that are going to be used in this offensive (READ HERE).
Today, Malaysiakini reported DAP’s Tony Pua as saying that the chances of ousting the Prime Minister is next to zero — at least not through a vote of no confidence or by voting against the budget in Parliament. The anti-Najib forces also more or less share that same view and have accepted the fact that if Najib were to be ousted then Umno and Barisan Nasional would have to be brought down.
And that means Umno and Barisan Nasional must be defeated in the next general election.
That would have been almost impossible before this. Even the opposition said so, as did a number of political analysts. But as of today that scenario is getting closer to reality and is becoming more a possibility. And that is because of a raid the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) conducted today in Damansara Perdana on a company called Brandworth Corporation.
Brandworth Corporation is a company that managed Barisan Nasional’s media strategy in the previous general election and which will be managing the media strategy in the next general election as well. The entire election strategy, budget, funding, and other classified information regarding the previous and the coming general elections are now in the hands of the MACC.
Just over two months ago the opposition leaders made a visit to the MACC’s office in a ‘show of solidarity’. The MACC, which was condemned before this due to the Teoh Beng Hock and Ahmad Sarbani Mohamed deaths while under their custody, is now regarded as an opposition ally or a friend to those opposed to the government.
How fast one can transform from zero to hero when interests are aligned. Even organisations like the MACC that used to be called murderers can become the friend of the Rakyat if both share the same objective.
Anyway, with Umno’s and Barisan Nasional’s election strategies now in the hands of the MACC, it would be a matter of time before all these secrets fall into the hands of the opposition (if that has not already happened) considering that in Malaysia there are no secrets.
On 3rd August 2015, the MACC announced that the RM2.6 billion that was alleged to have been transferred into Najib’s personal bank account was a donation and did not come from 1MDB. In an about-turn, on 24th August 2015, the MACC Chief Commissioner, Abu Kassim Mohamed, one of the six Tan Sris Malaysia Today spoke about in earlier articles, said that the matter is still under investigation and the file is not closed yet.
With the file still open and the investigation still ongoing, the MACC has carte blanche to raid any company, organisation, political party, etc., and confiscate everything in that office, whether the documents and files are related to the investigation or not. Any action by the MACC is not subject to judicial review. So that technically means MACC can place itself above the law and beyond the jurisdiction of the courts.
It is a great advantage to have the MACC on your side. And if you want to oust the Prime Minister by defeating Umno and Barisan Nasional in the general election then the MACC is probably the only vehicle that can do that. Now whatever Umno and Barisan Nasional did in the previous general election and what it plans to do in the next general election is no longer a secret.
I suppose Umno and Barisan Nasional would just have to hope and pray that all those secrets now in the hands of the MACC will remain a secret and that there are no MACC officers who are sympathetic to the opposition. Because if they decide to hand those secrets to the opposition then Barisan Nasional is going to be in for a very difficult time in the coming general election. And if Barisan Nasional gets wiped out then invariably the Prime Minister can finally be ousted, as what the anti-Najib forces are trying to do.
I must say that this is a very brilliant move and something that even I had not anticipated. But then this is politics and in politics everything is fair. So maybe Pakatan Harapan still has some harapan after all with pakatan from the MACC. If Barisan Nasional is brought down and a new government takes over then Abu Kassim Mohamed should be given a cabinet post. Oh, is he one of the two Tan Sris who were promised a cabinet post if Najib is ousted?
