Kit Siang loses confidence in that motion
‘Not optimistic of sufficient numbers’ for vote against Prime Minister Najib Razak in Parliament.
(Free Malaysia Today) – Lim Kit Siang has apparently lost confidence in being able to vote out Najib Razak as prime minister. In a speech last night he said, “I am not optimistic of sufficient numbers” for a confidence motion being able to succeed.
Former premier Dr Mahathir Mohamad, who has campaigned to oust Najib, has urged Barisan Nasional MPs to vote against Najib in a confidence motion. Opposition leader Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail hopes to table such a motion during the current parliamentary meeting.
However, Lim said at a constituency dinner in Gelang Patah last night that he was no longer confident that enough of them would join opposition MPs in the vote, for which 112 votes in favour are needed for a simple majority. The Barisan Nasional commands 133 seats out of 222 in the Dewan Rakyat.
Although changes could take place in the next few weeks, Lim said Najib appeared to be quite safe and secure.
