Selangor DAP delegate wants leaders to issue ultimatum to Azmin over PAS
(The Malaysian Insider) – A Selangor DAP delegate had today proposed the party leadership put more pressure on Selangor Menteri Besar Mohamed Azmin Ali to quickly “remove” PAS representatives from the state government.
DAP Kajang Baru branch chairman Chiong Yoke Kong said if Azmin failed to do it, the leadership should just quit the state administration.
“This must happen because PAS has violated its promise in Pakatan Rakyat so we want our top leaders to give an ultimatum to Azmin to kick out the PAS representatives or DAP will walk out from the state government,” said Chiong during the debate at the Selangor DAP convention in Petaling Jaya.
However, he said it was up to the party leadership to decide how long it was going to give Azmin time to remove PAS from the state government.
“This must be done fast,” Chiong said. Ties between DAP and PAS have been under strain ever since the Pakatan Rakyat disintegrated after the Islamist party decided to implement the Islamic penal code or hudud in Kelantan.
Responding to Chiong’s debate, DAP Selangor vice-president Teng Chang Khim said there was confusion among the public over what had happened in Selangor and that it did not benefit the party.
“We have to be careful. We are in the government not because we want the post but because we have been given the responsibilities to rule. We were entrusted by the people based on our manifesto that we will manage the state better with higher integrity and we should fulfill it,” said Teng.
