Kin want Anwar’s surgery done overseas
(Malay Mail Online) – Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim’s family and supporters have urged Putrajaya to allow the PKR de facto leader to go for surgery overseas as they do not trust the local health care system.
News portal The Malaysian Insider reported today Anwar’s wife Datuk Seri Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail, who is currently parliamentary opposition leader, as saying that Anwar has been denied a physiotherapy treatment for his shoulder injury.
“We don’t trust the system here, because even the Attorney-General can be transferred without his knowledge,” Dr Wan Azizah was quoted saying.
News portal Malaysiakini reported Anwar’s lawyer R. Sivarasa as saying that Anwar’s family and supporters do not “trust the system to do an operation where Anwar would be under general anesthesia”.
Despite criticism from Anwar’s family and supporters, Deputy Home Minister Datuk Nur Jazlan Mohamed said last Monday that the jailed PKR leader was receiving treatment not accorded to other inmates at the Sungai Buloh Prison.
