I’m still open to meeting Pua and Rafizi, 1MDB chief says after snub
(Malay Mail Online) – 1 Malaysia Development Berhad (1MDB) president and chief executive Arul Kanda Kandasamy said today he has no qualms meeting with two of his fiercest critics Tony Pua and Rafizi Ramli to explain the state-owned company’s financial situation.
“We are and have been very transparent… I can still meet with Tony Pua and Rafizi, not a problem,” Arul Kanda said in an open dialogue at the Putra World Trade Centre here to explain the issues facing 1MDB.
The assertion followed calls by some Umno members to hold a dialogue with the two federal opposition lawmakers, whom they described as “thick” and unable to understand the financial situation facing 1MDB despite the explanations offered.
Arul said there was never a question of him being afraid to meet the duo or the public to discuss the so-called controversies surrounding the investment fund as claimed by critics.
“You can see we have been very open about things. We have provided answers and attend talks… I am telling you we are an open book. But to read an open book you need an open mind,” he said.
Petaling Jaya Utara MP Pua had challenged Arul Kanda to a live telecast debate on 1MDB earlier this month, but withdrew after he was told he stood to be ejected from Parliament’s Public Accounts Committee if he proceeded, due to confidentiality issues.
PKR’s Pandan MP Rafizi was named Pua’s replacement for the debate, but was snubbed by Arul Kanda.
Today, the 1MDB chief reiterated that neither he nor the firm had anything to hide, and that the government had been transparent in dealing with the controversies.
“We are the most investigated company in Malaysia I believe… this proves the sincerity of this government in wanting to provide the public with the truth about 1MDB,” he said.
