Johor police receive five reports against Alvin Tan for insulting Islam on Facebook
(Bernama) – Five police reports were made in Johor today against controversial blogger Alvin Tan for insulting Islam on Facebook recently.
Johor police acting chief, Datuk Ramli Hassan who confirmed the reports said so far, police had received five reports ― two in Johor Baru North and three at the Nusajaya police station.
He said police had also received reports on the unhappiness of the public over Tan’s provocative action that was spread on social media where he used a page of the Quran as toilet paper.
“Many people are angry with his action, as I’ve received many calls from various parties. Previously, they could hold back, but this time Alvin’s action is just too much,” he said when contacted by Bernama today.
He said the case would be handed to Bukit Aman police which would open an investigation paper on it, as well as conduct further investigation under the Sedition Act 1948.
Meanwhile, Gelang Patah Umno Youth head, Abdul Hamid Soaip who represented several non-governmental organisations to lodge a report at the Kangkar Pulai police station in Nusajaya this afternoon, said the police and Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) must take appropriate action against the individual.
“We hope the authorities will investigate this case thoroughly so that Tan is taken to court for his action which has gone too far,” he said after making the police report.
