Hadi to share stage with Najib at gathering on Muslim unity
(The Malaysian Insider) – PAS today confirmed that party president Datuk Seri Abdul Hadi Awang and Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak will both attend the conference ‘Multaqa Serantau Alumni Alazhar Malaysia’ from December 16 to 18.
PAS central committee member, Muhammad Sanusi Md Nor congratulated Hadi for his participation in the event.
“It’s a brave step that explores all segments of preaching. PAS is not exclusive as some claim it to be,” he said.
“This is mature politics, brave to meet anyone anywhere,” he added.
Hadi will be with Najib in an event themed “Perpaduan Ummah Merentas Ideologi” on the unity of Muslims, which will be held at a hotel in Putrajaya.
Sanusi confirmed the authenticity of a poster that allegedly spoke of Hadi’s cooperation with rival Umno, a subject which has plagued the Islamic party which is now alone on the opposition bench and not part of the new pact, Pakatan Harapan.
Hadi in a press conference yesterday said PAS would work with Umno, but would not join the ruling Barisan Nasional (BN).
“PAS will not join BN but there will be cooperation. We are not bound,” he said.
He said that the cooperation would happen in instances where there are foreign attacks on Malaysia, and also to overcome crime.
“The late Fadhil Noor also shared a stage with Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad on the Palestine issue,” he said.
“Muslims will be happy that those who opposed PAS all these years will now be listening to it,” he said.
