It is treason to King and country, Nurul Izzah

YET another politician is making headlines for all the wrong reasons. Except this time, it is the shining star of Pakatan Harapan, Nurul Izzah Anwar, that is under attack; the crime — borderline treason.

On Nov 9, 2015, a photo of Nurul Izzah was uploaded on the Internet holding up placards saying “Release Anwar Ibrahim Immediately” with Jacel Kiram, the daughter of the man who was responsible for the Lahad Datu invasion in 2013. Nurul Izzah smiles proudly with the self-styled Princess; perhaps feeling a sense of accomplishment to add yet another supporter to her cause; only to have the world crashing down on her soon after that.

By all means, Nurul Izzah was quick to “clear the air” over the photo with the daughter of the deceased self-styled Sultan Sulu, Jamalul Kiram III. But the damage has been done.

Any leader of any country must defend his nation’s sovereignty and the security of his people. Failing to do so is a grave betrayal of the people’s trust in its government… Therefore, Pakatan Rakyat urges the present national leadership to defend our land and never to compromise on the safety of each and every Malaysian…”

These are the passionate words of (now disbanded) Pakatan Rakyat when the self-styled Sultan Sulu, Jamalul Kiram III invaded Lahad Datu to ‘reclaim’ their land. It is a painful memory for Malaysia. We lost 8 men, including two commandos, in their fight to defend our sovereign land. Yet, it seems like Nurul Izzah Anwar has forgotten the pain and unnecessary suffering the people of Malaysia had to go through because of the Lahad Datu invasion when people there are still traumatised by the invasion. The memories are still fresh on their minds.

Jamalul Kiram may be dead, but his aspirations to claim back Sabah for Philippines has clearly been passed on to his daughter, Jacel Kiram. In her bid for senatorship in 2016, Jacel Kiram stated that, “They (Malaysia) land grabbed North Borneo/Sabah from the Filipinos. If they really want to help the Philippines, first thing first–give Sabah back to the Filipinos.” One only needs to go to her Facebook page “Princess Jacel Kiram 2016” to confirm this.

Nurul Izzah may have shouted about upholding our constitution and honouring the sovereignty of our homeland. But this is not the first time that Nurul Izzah has undermined our homeland’s sovereignty.

Nurul Izzah and her family have been tireless in lobbying for external forces to push for their father’s release from jail, undermining Malaysia’s good image in the eyes of the world. Even meeting with the officials from the White House, State Department and Congress a few months earlier to lobby for their intervention for their father’s release.

Is this the kind of character that we should look up to as a leader?

It seems as if her determination to lobby for her father’s release is an obsession that makes her disregard our national interests.

It is enough that we already had another PKR parliamentarian, Tian Chua, who described the Lahad Datu invasion as a “sandiwara”. We do not need any more politicians to undermine the sacrifices made by our heroes to defend our nation.

It is a disgrace that someone who aspires to lead Malaysia one day would build a cordial relationship with a person who openly supported the Lahad Datu invasion.

It is a betrayal of the trust given to you by the people, and treason to the King and country to put your personal agenda above the country’s interest.

Does your love towards Malaysia only exist when you are in the government? Is Malaysia’s sovereignty and honour second only to your personal agendas?

You not only owe the country an apology but you should shamefully plead for forgiveness from the friends and families of those who lost their lives in Lahad Datu, Nurul Izzah.
