Did Nurul Izzah, Tian Chua sponsor Sabah invasion? Umno man asks
(Malay Mail Online) – Umno grassroots leader Datuk Jamal Md Yunos accused PKR’s two vice-presidents Nurul Izzah Anwar and Chua Tian Chang of treason and suggested the duo may have even “sponsored” the 2013 Sulu intrusion into Sabah that led to 15 Malaysian deaths.
Jamal who gained prominence as the spokesman of a “red shirts” rally in September was accompanied by some 100 people to the Dang Wangi district police headquarters to lodge a complaint against the two federal opposition lawmakers after Nurul Izzah was photographed with Jacel Kiram, daughter of the self-styled Sulu sultan who masterminded the raid.
“Today, we would like to ask the police to act against these two, Nurul Izzah and Tian Chua for betraying the country,” Jamal told reporters, before filing a police report against the duo.
He added that he wanted the police to investigate the Batu MP, popularly known as Tian Chua, as the latter too had accompanied Nurul Izzah to the Philippines where the Lembah Pantai MP had met Jacel.
He said he would leave it to the police to decide which law to use for their investigation on the PKR duo, but said there may be an older link that tied them to the attack on Sabah.
“We would like to ask, were they behind the reason why 200 Abu Sayyaf members are able to enter Sabah? It is impossible for them to be able to do so unless someone sponsored them,” Jamal said.
The February 2013 raid by 200 gunmen on Kampung Tanduo, near Lahad Datu was led by the brother of the late Jamalul Kiram III and his men who insisted their clan had a centuries old claim on Sabah.
No link was made then between the Sulus and Abu Sayyaf. The southern Philippine terror group is better known for making kidnapping runs into Sabah’s porous east coast to take hostages for ransom.
The Sungai Besar Umno division chief also claimed today to have received information that the families of the Lahad Datu invaders were living in luxury, and insinuated that their alleged wealth was also sponsored.
Pictures of Nurul Izzah and Jacel have been circulating online, sparking outrage among Internet users who asked why the PKR vice-president would associate herself with the daughter of the man who ordered an invasion of Sabah two years ago in a bid to claim the Malaysian state for his own.
The daughter of former opposition leader Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim was criticised as being insensitive, with some claiming her association with the Kiram family insulted Malaysian security personnel who died fighting the Sulu militants.
Nurul Izzah has since confirmed in a statement that she attended a meeting with Filipino delegates on November 9 in which Jacel was present, but stressed that the guest list was decided by the hosts.
Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Khalid Abu Bakar told reporters this morning that the police will investigate Nurul Izzah for meeting with the “country’s enemy”.
