You may not win next GE, DAP life adviser tells members

(Malay Mail Online) – DAP may have got a bigger chunk of the voter pie since the last general elections but its members should not think they can ease up in their battle for Putrajaya, life adviser to the federal opposition party Dr Chen Man Hin said today.

The 90-year-old founding member said Umno was in “big trouble”, but noted that the Barisan Nasional coalition’s anchor has been in a tough spot before but still pulled through intact.

“Don’t think they are easy; they have the money and Umno’s leaders are all entrenched in positions,” Dr Chen said in a short speech at the DAP Socialist Youth’s national congress 2015 here.

“So I think my short message is to ask all of you to be patient, to fight for a long time more. The coming elections, when it comes, doesn’t mean we’ll be in power. Not necessary. We have to fight some more, to fight and to struggle for a long time. But be ensured we shall win in future,” he added.

The DAP won big in the 13th general election, sweeping 38 out of the 51 parliamentary seats it contested, becoming the second largest party in Parliament after Umno.

The predominantly Chinese party has since been trying to widen its appeal to Malay voters by recruiting prominent Malays like national laureate Datuk A. Samad Said and fielding Dyana Sofya Mohd Daud in the Teluk Intan by-election last year.
