Pakatan Harapan will die after GE14, if not earlier, PAS research unit predicts
(Malay Mail Online) – Pakatan Harapan will likely dissolve shortly after the 14th general election as internal conflict will quickly tear the newly-formed pact apart, PAS’s research centre predicted today.
To support its forecast, the centre pointed to the constant bickering among Pakatan Harapan’s member parties in Penang and Selangor, and said that the break-up could even occur before the federal polls.
“Based on the conflict happening among PH’s component parties now, in addition to internal problems within their own parties, it is predicted that the longest PH can survive is right until after GE14.
“In addition, the possibility that the pact will dissolve even before GE14 is also high, due to the increasing number of conflicts they face,” the centre’s director Dr Mohd Zuhdi Marzuki said in a statement.
One example, said Zuhdi, is Pakatan Harapan’s alleged failure to agree on the controversial Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP) agreement.
He alleged that while the DAP is keen to support the trade pact, PKR is still indecisive while only youth leaders from Parti Amanah Negara are against it.
He then contrasted it to PAS’s committed stand on the TPP, including the support it is getting from NGOs through its Kongres Rakyat initiative.
“Kongres Rakyat is planning a mass protest during the TPP debate in a special Parliament session around January.
“It is clear that Kongres Rakyat’s solidarity in this issue is more robust than PH’s,” said the PAS central committee member.
Pakatan Harapan was formed earlier this year among PKR, DAP and Amanah to replace the nearly seven-year-old Pakatan Rakyat (PR) pact that was declared dead after the fallout between PAS and the DAP in June.
