Tian Chua behind meeting with Sulu’s Jacel Kiram, says Zahid
(The Malaysian Insider) – Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi today named PKR leader Chua Tian Chang, also known as Tian Chua, as the person who had arranged the recent meeting between Nurul Izzah Anwar and Sulu representative Jacel Kiram.
“Tian Chua was the man who arranged the meeting. He was the person responsible in connecting with the Sulu sultanate. He has to be very careful with his action,” Zahid, who is also the home minister, told the media today.
The Malaysian Insider is trying to get a response from Tian Chua about Zahid’s claim.
Lembah Pantai MP Nurul Izzah is in the spotlight after Jacel posted a picture of them on Facebook which showed them holding posters demanding the release of the PKR vice-president’s father, Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, from jail.
Jacel is the daughter of self-proclaimed Sulu Sultan Jamalul Kiram III, who was behind the Lahad Datu incursion in eastern Sabah in 2013, in which a number of Malaysian armed forces personnel were killed.
While Nurul Izzah has expressed regret for the hurt caused to the families of the soldiers, she remains under criticism and has been accused of treason.
In Parliament, Barisan Nasional backbenchers say they intend to refer her to the rights and privileges committee for failing to uphold Malaysia’s sovereignty as a federal lawmaker.
Zahid today took issue with Tian Chua’s earlier statement defending Nurul Izzah, in which he asked what crime she had committed.
“This is not about that. This is about the country’s sovereignty and dignity,” said Zahid.
