Loud cheer for PAS guests at PKR national convention
(The Star) – Delegates at PKR’s national convention gave PAS the loudest cheer when the party’s presence at the event was announced by the master of ceremony.
In comparison, the presence of PAS’ splinter group Parti Amanah Nasional was given just a lukewarm welcome.
When met at the sidelines of the convention later, PAS vice-president Datuk Iskandar Abdul Samad (pic) said he was surprised by the rousing welcome his party received from the delegates.
“I did not expect that. This is an incentive for us to be closer with PKR,” said Iskandar who attended the convention with PAS secretary-general Datuk Takiyuddin Hassan.
He said the support shown by the PKR delegates was not only comforting to PAS but also to the public which wanted the opposition to be strong and united.
It was possible for PKR to become the facilitator to keep all the parties in the opposition front together, he said.
PKR deputy president Azmin Ali, when asked about the response received by PAS, said it was the sentiments of the PKR grassroots.
“We have to work together.
“We have to be inclusive and we need PAS, DAP and Amanah,” said Azmin.
Several delegates, when debating party president Datuk Seri Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail’s policy speech, reminded party leaders to bear in mind always the role played by PAS in strengthening the opposition.
Meanwhile, women leaders and elected representatives from Pakatan Harapan said those who had been criticising PKR vice-president Nurul Izzah Anwar for taking a photograph with self-styled Sulu “princess” Jacel Kiram should back off.
In a statement read out by Seputeh MP Teresa Kok of DAP, the women said the photograph was uploaded on the Internet by Jacel and not Nurul Izzah.
