Ku Nan: Umno supreme council to decide if Najib will be sole speaker at assembly’s end
(The Malaysian I sider) – The Umno supreme council will decide next Wednesday whether other party leaders besides Datuk Seri Najib Razak will get the opportunity to deliver a closing address at the party’s general assembly.
Umno secretary-general Datuk Seri Tengku Adnan Tengku Mansor said he personally felt that it was sufficient for Najib to deliver the only final speech at the assembly.
“Till this day I am of the opinion that there is no need for the anyone else to speak except the party president.
“That is my view, air till the Umno supreme council meets, then maybe (they will decide),” he told a news conference here.
Tengku Adnan also disputed former Wanita Umno division chief Datuk Hamidah Osman’s claim that she had not received an official letter pertaining to her sacking from the party.
“We have already sent a letter, how can she say she did not receive it when the letter has been sent,” the Umno secretary-general said.
Yesterday, Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin lamented that he will be treated like a “a tree stump” during the Umno annual general assembly next week as he will not be given an opportunity to address party delegates.
The Umno deputy president revealed that he has now been relieved of the duty to deliver the winding-up speech on the last day of the assembly, after already having been replaced as the opening speaker for the assemblies of the Youth, Wanita, and Puteri wings.
