Ku Nan: Muhyiddin will face action if ‘crosses line’ in speech tonight

(Malay Mail Online) – Umno secretary-general Datuk Seri Tengku Adnan Tengku Mansor today warned Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin not to overstep bounds in a planned address to supporters tonight, saying the latter will be disciplined by the party if he disregards the caution.

Tengku Adnan, who is commonly known as Ku Nan, said, however, that it was the Umno deputy president’s prerogative to speak to his own supporters at the event scheduled to be held at Kelab Sultan Sulaiman here tonight.

“I don’t know anything about [the talk tonight] but if he wants to give a speech, it is up to him,” the federal territories minister told reporters after an event here today.

“Just don’t cross the line. If you cross the line, we will take action,” he warned.

In a departure from party tradition, Muhyiddin has been removed from all speaking duties at the Umno general assembly beginning tomorrow.

The Umno deputy president customarily delivers the opening address at the assemblies of the Youth, Wanita and Puteri wings as well as the winding-up speech on the final day of the main assembly.

Muhyiddin last week lamented that he will end up as a “wood stump” on the stage as he will no longer have a chance to address party delegates.

Muhyiddin and Umno vice-president Datuk Seri Shafie Apdal were removed from the federal Cabinet in July, ostensibly for questioning Putrajaya’s handling of the 1Malaysia Development Berhad (1MDB) issue.

Both continue to be critical of the Umno leadership.
