Muhyiddin will be happier if 1MDB went bankrupt
(Malaysian Digest) – Unwarranted accusations by former Deputy Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin against government investment fund 1Malaysia Development Berhad (1MDB) clearly shows that the answers given by various parties including Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak will never satisfy him.
Yesterday, Muhyiddin together with Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad once again reiterated the same allegations against 1MDB, directly implicating Najib in addition to urging the Prime Minister to step down from his post.
The RM2.6 billion fund issue that was raised by Muhyiddin yesterday had already been answered by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Committee (MACC) where they had found that the funds were not from 1MDB.
Many explanations had been given including from the 1MDB Chief Executive Officer himself, Arul Kanda Kandasamy, who has promised to put the company on the right track within 6 months.
However, Muhyiddin along with the ‘anti-Najib’ group remain dissatisfied and claim that the explanations for this issue are always changing. The allegations made against the issue were never consistent either.
This is evident when the first allegation on the supposedly missing RM42 billion from 1MDB was proved false, the ‘amount’ changed to RM27 billion. Now the current argument revolves around the RM2.6 billion donation.
Along with urging Najib to effectively resign when he suggested that the prime minister should go on leave until the 1MDB investigation is completed, the current UMNO deputy president also proposed that the position of UMNO President held by an individual should have a term limit to curb any abuse of power.
This suggestion brought about a cynical smile on Mahathir’s face, who was on the stage, because the former Prime Minister held his post as UMNO president for 22 years.
Is it possible that Muhyididn forgot that he was also in power for almost 30 years, 19 years as a cabinet minister as well as being Chief Minister of Johor for 9 years?
These desperate allegations only reflect on these disgruntled UMNO members own shortcomings and it clearly does not bring any benefits to the party.
Harping on the 1MDB issue will also not bring any satisfaction to these Opposition-backed groups as long as the government investment fund is still in operation.
Perhaps they will be happier if 1MDB went bankrupt.
