Mending ties with Dr Mahathir akin to wrestling match, says Najib
(Astro Awani) – The estranged relationship between former prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad and Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak could be mended if both parties are willing to do so.
However, Najib said it might prove to be a difficult task, akin to a ‘wrestling match’.
“It takes two to tango, that’s all I want to say.
“But to tango might not be the right word. It might be a wrestling match,” said Najib in an interview with The Star in conjunction with the UMNO General Assembly 2015.
Najib said Tun Mahathir wants a Prime Minister who listens to him.
“If it is not 1MDB, he will find something else. If he says he wants a crooked bridge, yes sir, I’ll do a crooked bridge.
“He doesn’t like Singapore, you quarrel with Singapore. If he likes Africa, you go to Africa. This is (Dr) Mahathir.
“But a Prime Minister has to do what he thinks is the correct thing. I knew I would incur his wrath and I was right,’ he said.
Najib added that Dr Mahathir has quarrelled with every prime minister except Tun Razak.
