Salleh: Najib not a leader who blows his own trumpet

(Bernama) – Umno President Najib Razak is not a leader who “blows his own trumpet” over the success of the Malays and Umno, said Communications and Multimedia Minister Salleh Said Keruak.

He said the various success stories shared by Najib when opening the 2015 Umno general assembly today were facts which could not be refuted.

“To me, the president (Najib) did not take credit for the success of the Malays. He said clearly that since independence, the success that had been achieved were accomplishments by Umno, he told reporters after opening the Wanita Umno Health Carnival here today.

Salleh, who is Kota Belud Umno division leader, said this when asked to comment on a statement by former prime minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad who said that Najib should not take credit for Umno’s success in developing the country since Independence.

Salleh said the country also progressed during Dr Mahathir’s era and he was also praised when he helmed Umno.

“It cannot be refuted that there was progress during Mahathir’s time, many quarters praised him because we normally cannot separate the government with the leader,” he added.

On the speech by the Umno president, Salleh said it was a speech by a fighter who not only wanted to champion the people, but also the party direction.

“It was clear, Najib was speaking from his heart, wants us to forget the petty things and focus on the real struggle in pursuit of the people’s interests and Malaysia’s progress,” he added.
