Kit Siang: Reunited Pakatan Rakyat can’t defeat Barisan

(The Star) – Even if Pakatan Rakyat is recreated, it will not be able to defeat the ruling coalition in the next general election, says DAP adviser Lim Kit Siang (pic).

He said on Tuesday that even a double miracle of reuniting DAP, PKR and PAS, and reuniting PAS with Parti Amanah Negara, would not be enough to beat Barisan Nasional, although the ruling coalition was now more ‘fractured and weaker’.

“This is because the reconstituted Pakatan Rakyat in the 14th General Election will be fighting a losing battle just to win back the same number of parliamentary and state assembly seats.

“The most important element which led to the 53% popular support for Pakatan Rakyat in the GE13 will be missing, which is absolute trust and confidence in the PR because of the people’s belief in the unswerving commitment of DAP, PKR and PAS to the PR Common Policy Framework,” he said in a blog posting on Tuesday.

The Gelang Patah MP likened the former Opposition pact’s fate to a popular children’s nursery rhyme, “Humpty Dumpty’s great fall”, saying that just like Humpty Dumpty, it would not be possible to put Pakatan Rakyat back together again.

Lim said the country needed a new vehicle for political change, pointing to Amanah and the subsequent Pakatan Harapan partnership as being able to fill the political vacuum in Malaysia.

He said Malaysia was not about saving an individual or a political party, but about returning to the promise of being a successful plural nation with its people united in their goal of achieving justice, freedom and progress.

“Pakatan Harapan must dare to have a bold vision for all Malaysians, to achieve the ‘Malaysian Dream’, and aim to win Putrajaya to form the Federal Government and win at least six state governments in the 14th general election, including Perak,” he added.
