Some PAC members accused of ‘politicising proceedings’
PAC member Liang Teck Meng says some among them are telling “lies” and “misleading” the public with statements they have issued to the media
(Free Malaysia Today) – Some Public Accounts Committee (PAC) members are speaking to the media and politicising the proceedings being held on the 1Malaysia Development Berhad (1MDB) issue and should be reigned in, said fellow member Liang Teck Meng.
The MP for Simpan Renggam was quoted in Star Online as saying, “It seems these people are more interested to politicise the proceedings rather than in finding out the actual truth of the subject of our inquiry.
“As a member of the PAC committee, I am truly disappointed and upset with their behaviour. It is full of lies and misleading.”
Yesterday when asked about details of the proceedings between the PAC and 1MDB chief Arul Kanda Kandasamy, Tony Pua , DAP MP for Petaling Jaya Utara said he personally felt dissatisfied with the answers given, an opinion that was in direct contrast to that of the committee’s chairman Hasan Arifin, who said he was satisfied with the information received. William Leong, PKR MP for Selayang had also spoken to the media.
Liang said that apart from making misleading statements “designed to prejudice the public on PAC proceedings”, the members were going against the agreement that only the chairman speak to the press or issue press statements regarding the PAC proceedings on 1MDB.
He also clarified that Arul answered all questions posed to him except one as it was related to an allegation in the media from the day before on matters related to an external party, the news portal said.
“This selective and partial release of information by these parties does not give a true and fair picture of what transpired in the proceedings yesterday, Liang said, adding that some online English and Chinese media” had believed the lies told to them.
