PAS sec-gen denies intention to forgive Umno

Takiyuddin-Hassan

Takiyuddin asks all PAS members and the public at large to always refer to any statement made by its leaders through its official media

(Free Malaysia Today) – PAS secretary-general Takiyuddin Hassan has denied stating the Islamist party was willing to “forgive and forget” Umno’s past indiscretions despite numerous reports quoting him as saying so.

Singling out The Malaysian Insider, Takiyuddin said his statement, made during Perkasa’s annual general assembly yesterday, was misreported and taken out of context.

“Throughout the whole interview, I did not at any point hear or answer questions regarding PAS forgiving Umno,” he claimed, before blaming the noisy background for his failure to hear questions posed by reporters present.

“It is for this reason that I assume such a question was not asked, hence, any reply I made was not true, did not come from me, or was what I meant,” he added in a statement today.

The Kota Baru Member of Parliament also expressed regret over the news article as it had confused and upset other PAS members.

“It has negatively affected my position as PAS secretary-general due to its (the report) nature which was clearly defamatory and mala fide,” said Takiyuddin, alleging the misreporting was meant to tarnish the image of PAS and its leadership.

To avoid further confusion, he advised PAS members and the public at large to double check any statements made by his party’s leaders with those published on the party’s official media.
