PAS to contest 11 state seats in Sarawak

Iskandar Abdul Samad

(The Rakyat Post) – PAS will be standing in at least 11 state seats during the upcoming Sarawak state election.

Its vice-president, Datuk Iskandar Samad said that there was an addition of six seats in total as compared to five seats from the previous election it had stood for.

According to him, PAS had been competing in Sarawak since 1996 and was active in 11 regions with over 2,000 activist who were prepared to face the election.

“PAS has been conducting social, religious and educational programmes and receive a lot of support from the people.

“Sarawak Chief Minister Tan Sri Adenan Satem has acknowledged the programmes that PAS conducted, which means the existence of the party here is still relevant,” he said.

Iskandar said so in respond to a statement made by PKR president Datuk Seri Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail yesterday saying that PAS was less influential in Sarawak.

Dr Wan Azizah added that aside from lack of influence, PAS also did not have any state or parliament seats in both of the states.

The Selangor  state executive councillor also said that most works done in Sarawak by PAS was mobilised by local youths.

“The PAS Supporters Congress comprising those who are not Muslims also played an important role.

“In that sense, it is untrue when she said that PAS in Sarawak is lacking support from the people there,” he added.
