Bitten once, G25 says will lose goodwill in naming supportive sultans

(MMO) – G25 is standing firm against naming the Malay rulers who have voiced support for the pro-moderation group, saying they will lose the goodwill of the sultans after agreeing to keep their identities confidential.

Datuk Noor Farida Ariffin, spokesman for the group of Malay retired top civil servants, said G25 did not want to repeat the mistake that one of its members, Tawfik Ismail had made when he revealed the group’s conversations with former prime minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad and ex-deputy prime minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin.

“We will lose all the goodwill we presently have with the rulers if we were to reveal whom we met,” Noor Farida told Malay Mail Online.

“We had agreed with the sultans that our meetings with them and the discussion would be kept private,” she added.

The former Sessions Court judge also said the public can guess which of the state rulers are supportive of G25 “from their speeches and the issues that they raise”.
