Ahmad Bashah to be sworn in as Kedah MB tomorrow
(Malay Mail Online) – Kedah Umno deputy chief Datuk Seri Ahmad Bashah Md Hanipah, the man who led the movement to oust Datuk Seri Mukhriz Mahathir, will be formally made the state’s new mentri besar tomorrow.
A swearing-in ceremony for Ahmad Bashah’s appointment will take place tomorrow before the Kedah Regency Council at Istana Anak Bukit here.
Kedah state secretary Datuk Bakar Din, who announced this at a press conference in Wisma Darul Aman here, said Mukhriz’s resignation, which was announced by the embattled leader himself at 10.25am this morning, is effective today.
“The Kedah Regency Council has consented for Ahmad Bashah to be appointed as the Kedah mentri besar effective from February 4,” he said.
Ahmad Bashah was the man who led the delegation of 14 Umno division chiefs, state and federal lawmakers to call for removal of Mukhriz at a press conference on January 20.
Among the reasons given for their discontent was Mukhriz’s purported failure to govern the state, to unite the party and his lack of strategy for the next general election in 2018.
The Kedah Regency Council met with all the Barisan Nasional assemblymen in the state, including Mukhriz, and the 15 opposition assemblymen on Monday and yesterday.
