PAC plans to table final report on 1MDB in Parliament next month

(The Rakyat Post) – The Public Accounts Committee plans to table its final report on 1Malaysia Development Berhad (1MDB) in Parliament during the March sitting of the Dewan Rakyat.

Its chairman Datuk Hasan Arifin said it would be done after the PAC had gone through the Auditor-General’s report on the matter on Feb 24 and 25.

“The Auditor-General’s report is very important because it will be the main reference for us to make our conclusions before we table our report in Parliament,” he said in a statement here today.

Meanwhile, Hasan said the PAC’s proceedings involving former 1MDB president and chief executive officer Datuk Shahrol Azral Ibrahim Halmi and former 1MDB chairman Tan Sri Mohd Bakke Salleh on Feb 11 and 12 were the final hearings on 1MDB’s management.

He explained that the proceedings had dragged on since May 2015 and after the nine hearings held during that period, it was enough for the PAC to make objective, transparent and fair conclusions.

Hasan also said that there was no need to call up Bank Negara governor Tan Sri Zeti Akhtar Aziz and former 1MDB CEO Mohd Hazem Abdul Rahman to testify on 1MDB.

He clarified that the testimony provided by 1MDB chairman Tan Sri Lodin Wok Kamaruddin during the PAC’s hearings on Jan 19 and 20 was sufficient, based on his responsibilities and in-depth knowledge on the running of the sovereign wealth fund.

“Apart from that, on 1MDB and Bank Negara, the matter has been openly addressed by 1MDB in the mass media and commented on by the the Attorney-General, which has also been widely reported by the mass media,” he added.
