Khairy: It’s a fact, youths not keen to do 3D jobs

(Bernama) – The people must accept reality that locals, especially youths, are not keen to take on dangerous, dirty and difficult (3D) jobs, said Youth and Sports Minister Khairy Jamaluddin.

He said the move by Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi in challenging local youths last Sunday to handle 3D jobs was an effort to explain that foreigners were needed to handle it because the sector was not popular with Malaysians.

He said this to reporters when asked to comment on the matter after launching the “fitness in my pocket” application here Tuesday.

The new application, developed by eSolved MSC Sdn Bhd, enables smart phone users to train and do simple physical exercises by themselves.

It was reported that the Malaysian Government planned to bring in 1.5 million Bangladeshi workers over a period of three to five years.

Khairy said: “On the issue of recruiting foreign workers for several industrial sectors, we have no choice for the moment but to take in foreign workers.”

He said the youths in the country were not keen to work in the construction, plantation and manufacturing sectors because of several factors including the low pay and heavy workload.
