Tan: PAC did not touch on RM2.6b issue with Bakke

(Free Malaysia Today) – The Public Accounts Committee (PAC) never touched on the RM2.6 billion that was banked into the Prime Minister’s private accounts when it interviewed 1Malaysia Development Bhd (1MDB) chairman Mohd Bakke Salleh.

In revealing this, DAP’s Tan Seng Giaw said Bakke was only attached to the state-investment arm for a while.

“He was there for less than six months. Within those six months, there were only one or two meetings.

“People who don’t know should not make such statements,” the PAC deputy chairman told FMT, in leaping to Bakke’s defence.

The Kepong MP said that it was unfair to ask Bakke about the RM2.6 billion issue as it had not arisen then.

Bakke was the 1MDB chairman in 2009.

Yesterday, Bakke denied ever informing PAC that the RM2.6 billion came from 1MDB.

“The Wall Street Journal” had previously reported that the sum was from 1MDB.

The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission later clarified that the money deposited in 2013 came from a Middle-Eastern donor.

The sum, which was banked into Najib Razak’s personal accounts, was supposedly to help the Barisan Nasional win the 13th General Election.
