NGO also asks police to act against Sarawak Report for publishing Sirul’s statement, which was supposed to be confidential

(Free Malaysia Today) – Former Prime Minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad is trying to “influence” convicted murderer Sirul Azhar Umar, who is currently in detention in Australia, claimed an NGO today.

Pertubuhan Minda dan Sosial Prihatin (PMSP) deputy president Zakwan Hafiz Ahmad Ansari said there were also several others working in cahoots with Mahathir, including former Batu Kawan Umno man Khairuddin Abu Hassan and Pokok Sena MP Mahfuz Omar.

“Tun M (Mahathir) tried to contact (Sirul) when his (Sirul’s) family visited him. I was also informed by the Australian authorities that Khairuddin had attempted to meet Sirul, but was turned down by the country’s immigration.

“Mahfuz also tried to contact Sirul to do something,” Zakwan told reporters outside the Petaling Jaya police headquarters after lodging a report on the matter.

“Sirul is not the only Malaysian detained overseas. There are many others. Why did Tun M not attempt to meet any of them if he meant well?”

Zakwan also urged the police to probe how whistleblower website Sarawak Report had obtained confidential documents pertaining to Sirul’s confession, and run them on the website.

“I have conducted checks and found that Sirul’s statement, under Section 113 of the Criminal Procedure Code (CPC) was not tendered in court during the murder trial of Altantuya Shaariibuu.

“I believe the documents have leaked in three stages – in the Attorney-General’s Chambers, in police possession, as well as during court proceedings,” he claimed.
