Asia’s top debater Syed Saddiq says if Penang CM continues the clamp down on those with a different viewpoint, he’ll end up being another version of the enemy he intends to defeat.

(Free Malaysia Today) – Lim Guan Eng is a “hypocrite” for sacking two Penang PKR representatives from their positions in state government-linked companies merely because they had a stand which differed from the state government.

Asia’s top debater Syed Saddiq Syed Abdul Rahman, in his Facebook account today, said removing those whom Lim deemed as dissenters made the Penang Chief Minister no different from his enemy, Prime Minister Najib Razak.

“You claim to represent diverse viewpoints, yet you label those who don’t share the same opinion as you as backstabbers and traitors.

“You claim to respect a person’s conscience, a person’s free will, yet you punish them for voting on their conscience.

“You ridicule Umno and BN for not tolerating voices of dissent, yet small dissenters like these get disproportionately punished and suppressed.”

Syed Saddiq questioned the need to sack Kebun Bunga representative Cheah Kah Peng and Bukit Tengah representative Ong Chin Wen from the Penang Hill Corporation, investPenang and Island Golf Properties Bhd, a subsidiary of state investment arm Penang Development Corporation.

These assemblymen had merely abstained from voting against a land reclamation motion, which Syed Saddiq said could possibly have had an unforeseeable social and environmental impact.

“Is it morally wrong to put profits on the back-burner for once? If this continues, you’ll (Lim) just be another version of the enemy you intend to defeat.

“It’s such a shame that someone who leads a democratic party decided to take an undemocratic path to silence dissent.”
