Zaid Ibrahim: Dr M has become biggest reformist in town
(The Star) – Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad wants change for Malaysia’s system more than the reformists, says former law minister Datuk Zaid Ibrahim.
In a FAQ-styled blog post on Monday, the former Umno lawmaker was responding to his blog readers who questioned him for praising the former prime minister in his bid to press for the resignation of Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak.
“On Tun M I must say this: Dr Mahathir wants the system to change as much — if not more — than the so-called reformists.
“I became his supporter because I see sincerity in his desire to transform the way the Government is managed.
“Only sincerity and love for the country could have compelled a 90-year-old man to continue in politics and work tirelessly. There is no other reason,” said Zaid.
However, he did admit that Dr Mahathir was in some ways responsible for the “evolution of our political culture” but said that this did not mean he could not be a leader of the movement for change, as the former premier “wants to move forward”.
Zaid blog post listed his answers to questions he said he received regarding his planned March 27 gathering to demand for the resignations of Najib, Attorney-General Tan Sri Mohamed Apandi Ali and Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Khalid Abu Bakar.
