Why Lim Chee Wee is pushing to implicate Najib

My source added that after failing to get the MACC-ORP to unanimously agree to this conspiracy, Lim Chee Wee decided instead to use The Malaysian Insider to ‘leak’ a ‘secret’ on condition that his name would not be mentioned or his identity revealed.

THE CORRIDORS OF POWER

Raja Petra Kamarudin

The Malaysian Insider said, ‘MACC oversight panel meets for last time today, insists Najib should face charges’. Malay Mail Online, however, said, ‘Panel says advised MACC on RM2.6 billion, SRC International cases’.

Most Malaysians do not bother to read the entire news report or article. They would just read the heading and then start foaming at the mouth. So what The Malaysian Insider did sort of suits the mentality of these Pakatuns. And any student of journalism knows that ‘Man bites dog’ attracts more readers than ‘Dog bites man’.

The Malaysian Insider reported that the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission’s Operations Review Panel (MACC-ORP), which met for the last time today, ‘is still adamant that Prime Minister Najib Tun Razak must face charges over his alleged financial scandals’.

The Malaysian Insider quoted ‘sources’ in the MACC-ORP without naming or identifying these sources, very similar to the way the other anti-government portals and even Sarawak Report and Wall Street Journal do their reporting – based on ‘according to sources’.

However, if you were to compare the contents of the news as reported by The Malaysian Insider to the one reported by Malay Mail Online, you will see that there are glaring differences between the two reports. The Malaysian Insider suggests one thing while Malay Mail Online suggests another.

The Malaysian Insider then continued their report saying that ‘speculation is rife’, admitting that what they are reporting is based merely on speculation — which means it could or could not be true.

“Insyallah, we are on the same page that Najib ought to be charged with alleged offences,” a panel member was alleged to have said on condition of anonymity. So we only have The Malaysian Insider’s word for this and the report could or could not be true.

In the first place, are these ‘sources’ authorised to issue statements on behalf of MACC or do they know that by revealing the internal matters of the MACC they violate the Official Secrets Act and that is why they want to remain anonymous?

They are pretending they are whistle-blowers but in fact they are not because there are specific laws regarding whistle blowing and violation of the law such as making false and misleading statements, like the one above, are not covered under the law.

The onus is now on The Malaysian Insider’s ‘source’ to prove he is telling the truth and The Malaysian Insider must also confirm that this anonymous ‘source’ is not Lim Chee Wee who sits in the MACC-ORP.

So, this panel member, Lim Chee Wee, who wishes to remain anonymous, said they are all ‘on the same page’. My ‘source’, however, that also wishes to remain anonymous, said that this is not true. At the end of the day this is my word against The Malaysian Insider’s based on ‘sources that wish to remain anonymous’.

However, knowing that the Pakatuns will only read The Malaysian Insider and not Malay Mail Online, guess which news report the Pakatuns will swallow? “And how would Malaysia Today report this same news?” you may ask.

Well, Malaysia Today would report this same news item as per the very heading of this article: ‘Why Lim Chee Wee is pushing to implicate Najib’.

And this is how the content would go:

Lim Chee Wee

According to Malaysia Today’s source, Lim Chee Wee, one of the eight panel members of Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission’s Operations Review Panel (MACC-ORP), was pushing the other seven panel members to come out with a joint-statement implicating Prime Minister Najib Tun Razak in wrongdoing.

Two members of the MACC-ORP agreed with this conspiracy but the other five disagreed. Also, according to my source, Lim Chee Wee is pro-Pakatan Harapan and he is hoping that he would be fielded as a candidate in the next general election.

Lim Chee Wee tried to convince the panel members that they need not make any direct allegation against Najib. They just need to imply that there was wrongdoing and then let the media spin it and the public will then jump to their own conclusions.

My source, that wishes to remain anonymous, said that Lim Chee Wee is trying to politicise this issue and he wants to use the MACC-ORP to do this. He told the panel that since this is the last day of the panel’s term they have nothing to lose anyway. They might as well fire one last damaging shot against Najib before they walk out the door.

My source added that after failing to get the MACC-ORP to unanimously agree to this conspiracy, Lim Chee Wee decided instead to use The Malaysian Insider to ‘leak’ a ‘secret’ on condition that his name would not be mentioned or his identity revealed.
