If unhappy, go to court, Guan Eng’s aide tells sacked PKR rep

(TMI) – PKR’s Kebun Bunga assemblyman Cheah Kah Peng is free to use legal avenues to challenge his removal from Penang Hill Corporation (PHC), said an aide to Penang Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng.

Air Itam assemblyman Wong Hon Wai (pic), who is also Lim’s political secretary, said the main operations of PHC were not in Cheah’s constituency but in Air Putih, which is part of Lim’s constituency.

“The multi-storey carpark, ticketing counters, rail tracks, scenic view platform, hawker centre, hotels and restaurants are all in Air Putih.

“So it is baseless for Cheah to say that voters in Kebun Bunga are denied their right to  be part of the affairs of PHC.

“Furthermore, the MP of Bukit Bendera Zairil Khir Johari is also a director of PHC. He can represent the people of Kebun Bunga as well,” he said in a statement today.

Yesterday, Cheah said it was a big mistake to remove him from the government-linked corporation, adding that by not being in PHC he would be at a loss when it came to development on the hill that was partly in Kebun Bunga.

His dismissal came after he abstained from voting against a Barisan Nasional (BN) motion on land reclamation in the state legislative assembly last November.

Four other PKR reps also abstained. Cheah said he abstained because the issue needed to be further discussed and clarified in public hearings, as suggested in the motion.

He also said that there had been little time and opportunity to raise questions at the state assembly. But Wong said before the assembly sitting, a pre-council meeting was held and all matters concerning the assembly were discussed, including the state’s stand to reject the BN motion.
