Ex-crime buster Zaman Khan denies signing declaration
(Bernama) – Retired crime-buster Mohd Zaman Khan Rahim Khan has vehemently denied reports that he was among those who signed Friday’s declaration supporting the ouster of Najib Razak as Prime Minister.
“I deny as strongly as possible, to say I am on the side of those who signed the declaration and will march to oppose the government. I am not involved,” said Zaman Khan, who is now chairman of the Malay Consultative Council’s Integrity Bureau.
Zaman Khan, 73, who is undergoing treatment at Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia Medical Centre, told Bernama today that he had been shocked when he found his name listed by the media as being among those who had signed the declaration.
He said he was told by Ibrahim Ali, president of the Malay supremacy party, Perkasa, that his name was listed.
Ibrahim had visited him at the hospital several days ago but they had only talked about his health problem and did not touch on the issue of supporting Najib’s ouster.
Zaman Khan developed a reputation as a crime-buster while OCPD of Petaling Jaya, CPO of Selangor, and later CID director at federal headquarters in the 1980s and 1990s. He was also a director of internal security and director-general of Prisons, from which position he retired in 1997.
On Friday, former prime minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad headed a group of more than 50 people including prominent opposition politicians such as Lim Kit Siang and Selangor Menteri Besar Azmin Ali in signing a declaration supporting the ouster of Najib as Prime Minister.
Other signatories included former Deputy Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin, former Kedah Menteri Besar Mukhriz Mahathir and former MCA president Tun Dr Ling Liong Sik.
