DAP-Umno rivalry will resume once citizens’ movement succeeds, Dr M says

(Malay Mail Online) – Backers of the Citizens’ Declaration will return to their respective struggles once their campaign to restore democracy achieves success, Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad said today as criticisms pour in over the unlikely group of supporters the initiative has attracted.

Dr Mahathir, the man behind the initiative, said the group checked their differences at the door before signing the declaration as they had all agreed that the only way to restore democracy was to remove Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak from office.

“Therefore these individuals from different fields had to put their struggles and respective organisations aside to have their voices heard by all. They needed to take action as ‘citizens’ and not as members of a party or a specific body,” he wrote in his latest blog posting.

“It was this realisation that that allowed old enemies to temporarily forget their hostilities to save their beloved country. Prioritising their parties would mean supporting and retaining Najib’s regime,” he added.
