Tsunamis start with small waves, Umno warned

A tsunami doesn’t start with a big wave, but small ones that soon become huge swells to wreak devastation upon the land.

That description of a natural disaster can be used as an analogy for what may happen to Barisan Nasional in the next general election if Umno doesn’t resolve the problems it’s currently facing, according to Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu (PBB) publicity chief Peter Minos.

In an interview with FMT, Minos said that although Sarawak BN tended to distance itself from its counterpart in Peninsular Malaysia, PBB couldn’t help being concerned over the effects of scandals currently associated with Umno.

“We are worried, especially with Dr Mahathir Mohamad’s resignation,” he said. “There will definitely be complications.

“I predict it will get tougher and tougher for Umno. It has to handle this properly because we have to face the general election in two years’ time.”

Peter said Umno shouldn’t deny that it needed to resolve its political problems urgently because these could drag the country down.

He advised Prime Minister Najib Razak to take pointers from Sarawak Chief Minister Adenan Satem’s method of running his state.

“We should be open enough to know there are problems and solve them,” he said. “That’s where I think Adenan is good. You like him or not, that’s your own issue. But he’s solving problems and I hope our boss, Najib, will do the same.
