Why Najib is now safe

And this is why most Malays are not going to vote for DAP plus all those parties such as PKR and Amanah that are seen as DAP running dogs in the next general election. Pakatan Harapan had better brace itself for a huge disappointment in 2018. Umno was actually hoping that something like what happened last Friday would happen. And it did. So this is going to make Umno’s job easier.

THE CORRIDORS OF POWER

Raja Petra Kamarudin

The ‘Save Malaysia’ campaign that was launched last Friday, 4th March 2016, with the signing of the Citizens’ Declaration is actually an old thing that has been given new life. It is only being made to look like this is something new in the hope it will gain the momentum it did not gain a year ago. And the news item from The Straits Times (Singapore) of 19th April 2015 demonstrates this point.

The fact that they keep moving the goalposts every time they seem to be losing the game is further proof that the reason they want Prime Minister Najib Tun Razak ousted is not as what they claim. It started with the excuse that Najib performed worse in the 2013 general election compared to Tun Abdullah Ahmad Badawi in the 2008 general election. That was the first reason cited as to why Najib must resign or get kicked out.

Then it was the Crooked Bridge and the fact that Najib is too close to Singapore and is compromising Malaysia’s interest by kowtowing to Singapore. Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad even said he does not understand why Najib gives in to Singapore and whether it is because Singapore has something on him.

After that it shifted to 1MDB and the allegation that RM42 billion of 1MDB’s money had disappeared into thin air and that Najib had stolen this RM42 billion. That allegation has now fallen flat because RM42 billion of 1MDB’s money has not disappeared into thin air. So now it is about the RM2.6 billion that Najib is alleged to have stolen from 1MDB and which they allege he banked into his personal bank account. And this, too, has now been proven to be a lie.

So, what more do they have on Najib to use as the excuse to kick him out? Hardly anything, really, and Dr Mahathir knows this. Dr Mahathir knows if he remains in Umno and continues to bark, like he has been doing for more than a year, he is not going to go anywhere. In fact, the result is his teammate, Muhyiddin Yassin, and his son, Mukhriz, just end up suffering.

And that was why Dr Mahathir resigned from Umno and is now trying to reinvent himself as the new joint de facto Opposition Leader together with Anwar Ibrahim. Did you ever imagine you would see the day that Dr Mahathir and Anwar would become co-Opposition Leaders and share the stage with Lim Kit Siang (who now swears that he never hated Dr Mahathir but actually secretly loves him)?

And what was that again about the difference between DAP and Umno is that DAP has principles while Umno does not? Yes, and I also believe that there is such a thing as virgin prostitutes and that you can be both at the same time. Would not what Dr Mahathir and Lim Kit Siang are doing be called political prostituting?

And now we are told that we must support this new ‘Save Malaysia’ Movement and that if we do not then we are traitors to the cause, to our race, to our religion and to our country. Yes, this is exactly what the Communist Party of Malaya used to say to all those Chinese who do not support the Communist cause. DAP is no different from the CPM. As the Malays would say: otak kominis.

Whatever threat that Najib faced has now been removed. And that is because the threat has now been shifted to Umno. And because of that Umno will unite and will stand behind Najib. And if Muhyiddin and Mukhriz continue to play this game they are going to get sacked from Umno. And it will be Umno and not Najib who will demand their sacking.

Mahathir says will not work with opposition to take on Najib

(The Straits Times, 19 April 2015) – Former Malaysian leader Mahathir Mohamad said on Sunday that he will not work with the opposition, despite his recent attacks against Prime Minister Najib Razak.

“No, I’m not working with anyone to bring down Najib, certainly not the opposition.”

“The problem is within Umno itself,” the former premier told reporters at the Putra World Trade Centre on the sidelines of an anti-war forum he was attending.

Tun Dr Mahathir, however, said that Najib should understand the sentiments of the people and it was best for him to resign as Prime Minister.

“One has to remember the results of the 13th general election. Najib’s performance was worse than Pak Lah’s (Abdullah Badawi).”

He added that Mr Najib was not receiving support, despite the number of people who have pledged their support.

“Believe me, he is not getting the support that he needs,” he said.

On Saturday, Democratic Action Party (DAP) adviser Lim Kit Siang had said that he was ready to put aside past problems and work with Dr Mahathir if that is what it takes to save the country.

“For this formidable task, we must be prepared to put our differences in the past to one side and concentrate all our energies on one common agenda, to save Malaysia from all centrifugal forces to tear the country asunder.”

“On this agenda, I am prepared even to work with Tun Mahathir to ‘Save Malaysia’,” Mr Lim had said in a transcript of a speech to Malaysian students in Egypt published on his blog.

Mr Lim was referring to the ‘Save Malaysia’ coalition, which he had first spoken about last month.

Meanwhile, Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin, who spoke at the Sunday forum, which was attended by Dr Mahathir and his wife Tun Dr Siti Hasmah Mohd Ali, praised Dr Mahathir for never shying away from the truth.

“Telling the truth and standing up has been your trademark since you were a young doctor and an ordinary Umno member…Let me assure you, sir that you are not alone,” said Mr Muhyiddin during his keynote speech.

He added that Dr Mahathir had always stood up for what he believed in and saluted the former prime minister for having the guts to stand up to world superpowers in making a stand against war.

Although Mr Muhyiddin’s comments at the forum stirred speculation that it was a nod to Dr Mahathir’s recent calls for Mr Najib to answer his critics over the debt-laden state fund 1MDB and other controversial issues, Dr Mahathir quickly brushed off the suggestion.

He told reporters after the event, Mr Muhyuddin was merely referring to Dr Mahathir’s role in speaking up against war crimes.

“It’s about this war, I’m talking about the war, and I think he’s supporting me for the war,” Dr Mahathir stressed to reporters, according to Malay Mail Online.
