MACC investigated Guan Eng before, but only regarding the rental, not the purchase

Lim-Guan-Eng

(Malay Mail Online) – The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) said it did not previously investigate Penang Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng over his purchase of a home in Penang.

Acknowledging a report lodged against Lim over the purchase, the MACC said that it has also taken the statement from the complainant.

“The MACC wishes to clarify that the case of the house purchase is a new revelation and that the commission did not previously open a file on this.

“The earlier MACC investigation only related to the rental of the house and not its purchase,” the commission said in a statement today.

The commission added that it will act independently and transparently in this and all matters, and pledged to investigate impartially all reports of possible corruption.

Yesterday, Tasek Gelugor MP Datuk Shabudin Yahaya accused Lim of corruption by linking the latter’s purchase of a house in Penang to the sale of the state government land in Taman Manggis there.

He alleged that Lim had bought the house for below market price from a seller who was was linked to the company that bought the Taman Manggis land back in 2012 to build a specialist hospital.

Lim today responded by stating he has nothing to hide and challenged Shabudin to meet him one-to-one at his office in Komtar this Sunday.
