Open Source Investigations

Clare Rewcastle, the British blogger and one of the main faces behind the plot to oust the Malaysian Prime Minister, is bankrolled by just two sources, OSI can reveal.

Despite trying to present herself as an independent journalist, funded by ‘a steady stream of small donations’, sources close to the blogger have revealed that over 80% of the Sarawak Report’s funding comes from just two pre-paid anonymous credit cards.

The revelation proves that her latest claim – that she is “beholden to no-one, either financially, or politically” – is yet another lie and provides yet more proof that she is a fully paid-up member of the plot to topple PM Najib Razak by those with vested interests.

This shocking revelation follows earlier revelations – from her own official company documents – that Rewcastle’s company was on the brink of insolvency and was only rescued as she agreed to campaign against the democratically elected Prime Minister Najib Razak.

10.1 Secret funder with deep pockets

In an interview with FMT, Clare Rewcastle claims: “I am beholden to no one, either financially or politically, on my reporting.”

We already know she printed stories on Anwar Ibrahim’s say so, and worked as his media advisor.

But now sources close to her have revealed that, despite her pretense and claims in interviews that she is funded by small donations, the truth is that more than 80% of her funding comes from just two pre-paid credit cards.

Such cards are issued without documents or interviews, and importantly, are not connected to any bank account – making them ideal for those who wish the avoid credit checks or want to remain anonymous.

And, those funding sources come with deep pockets. Rewcastle herself has admitted that it costs around $15,000 a month to run the site. And then there is the jet-setting, as Rewcastle crisscrossed the globe as she teamed up with first Anwar Ibrahim’s daughter and then media mogul Tong to offer Xavier Justo $2million for stolen data.

10.2 Lavish spending

Rewcastle crisscrossed the globe in 2014 and 2015 after agreeing to campaign against PM Najib and offering to buy the stolen data. According to her own words, her extensive travels took her across Europe, Asia and Australasia. At her peak in April 2015, she travelled across all three continents in one month. She flew to Indonesia, made at least 2 trips to Thailand, an astonishing 4 trips to Singapore and a further 4 trips to Australia – 10,500 miles away from her home in London. She also stopped off in Vienna and Geneva.

On these trips the blogger enjoyed the delights of 5-star hotels such as the award-winning Fullerton Bay Hotel in Singapore and the luxurious Athene Plaza in Bangkok.
