These are the resolutions from today’s Save Malaysia gathering organised by Zaid Ibrahim on how Malaysia can become a better place for 30 million Malaysians. An estimated 700 people representing 30 million Malaysians attended the event.

NO HOLDS BARRED

Raja Petra Kamarudin

Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad confessed he was a dictator when he was the Prime Minister for 22 years. However, no one demonstrated against him or asked him to step down in spite of that, said Mahathir.

Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail would not comment about whether she is prepared to meet Mahathir but said that the Save Malaysia campaign should not be about asking one man to step down. Wan Azizah added that the Save Malaysia campaign must include freeing her husband, Anwar Ibrahim, from jail.

Mahathir said that the Rulers would be asked to support the campaign to oust Najib although there is nothing in the Federal Constitution of Malaysia that allows for the Agong to sack a Prime Minister. (In fact, the First Agong, Tuanku Abdul Rahman, once said that His Majesty has no power to remove the Prime Minister but that the Prime Minister, Tunku Abdul Rahman, can remove the Agong).

Mahathir

Muhyiddin Yassin said he regrets asking Tun Abdullah Ahmad Badawi to resign as Prime Minister because that allowed Najib Tun Razak to take over. (Muhyiddin thought if Abdullah steps down then he would be able to take over instead while Najib would be disqualified because of the Altantuya murder controversy, which Tengku Razaleigh Hamzah was engineering to link Najib to).

Husam Musa said that the move to oust Najib was not for the benefit of DAP or Mahathir. He did not explain further what it was for, though, but suggested that Najib stole RM42 billion of 1MDB’s money although he did not explain the details or provide any evidence.

shauntan

Mahfuz Omar and Mat Sabu said that on behalf of the estimated thousands who were detained without trial under the Internal Security Act they forgive Mahathir for those detentions because ousting Najib is more important. (Mahfuz Omar and Mat Sabu did not say whether that includes the late Nik Aziz Nik Mat who said he would never forgive Mahathir for detaining his son sampai ke hari kiamat).

Mahathir said he cannot support a corrupt leader (although Tun Daim Zainuddin, Muhyiddin Yassin, Tan Koon Swan, Ling Liong Sik, Samy Vellu, and the many other Mahathir loyalists, were all implicated in corruption involving billions of Ringgit).

potong

Lim Kit Siang said he wants a new breed of Malaysians — new breed of Malays, Chinese, Indians, Kadazans, and Ibans — and that this is the only way to save Malaysia (which probably means Malaysians who do not believe in old superstition and nonsense such as houses without swimming pools that have bad feng shui).

Azmin Ali said that Mahathir arrested him and that the police beat him up while under detention but that has made him a better person and not a bitter person.
