The ANC, like Pakatan Harapan, is sinking

There is also talk that once Ku Li takes over as Prime Minister he is going to bongkar all Mahathir’s wrongdoings and make him pay for his transgressions which he committed in his 22 years as Prime Minister. The fact that Ku Li’s people are going round boasting that Mahathir is going to jail once Ku Li takes over more or less blew Ku Li’s chances of taking over.

THE CORRIDORS OF POWER

Raja Petra Kamarudin

The Deputy Home Minister, Nur Jazlan Mohamed, said that the government is going to investigate Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad over his confession aired on ABC regarding his dealings with Altantuya Shaariibuu killer Sirul Azhar Umar.

Sirul was actually Mahathir’s bodyguard when the latter was the Prime Minister and then was Tun Abdullah Ahmad Badawi’s bodyguard when he took over as Prime Minister. That is why Mahathir and Sirul have a very close relationship and it is said that Mahathir’s people may have helped Sirul escape to Australia.

The media reports say that Sirul was Najib Tun Razak’s bodyguard. The Special Branch, on the other hand, has investigated Sirul’s alleged links with Najib and came out with a report that clears Najib of any involvement in Altantuya’s murder. However, because the Special Branch officers involved are supporting the ANC (Anti-Najib Campaign), they refuse to make public this report.

Maybe the Home Ministry would be able to get to the bottom of the Mahathir-Sirul relationship, which may result in Mahathir getting charged for aiding and abetting a convicted murderer to escape to Australia.

At the same time the Home Ministry could probably investigate Anwar Ibrahim’s involvement in financing private investigator Balasubramaniam Perumal. As the late Bala’s widow said, initially he received financing from PKR but to ‘qualify’ to receive the money he would have to return to Malaysia and campaign for the opposition. However, after Bala suddenly died, PKR stopped the funding.

In fact, the same Chinese tycoon who was financing Anwar and PKR financed Bala’s stay in India. In return Bala had to make a three-part video recording implicating Najib in Altantuya’s murder. The recording was made in Singapore in the presence of Bala’s lawyers.

Meanwhile, Anwar Ibrahim has changed his mind regarding the Save Malaysia alliance and now withdraws his support. Anwar was hoping that the Save Malaysia campaign would include his pardon and release from jail. However, now that Anwar knows that Mahathir does not want to make that as part of the Save Malaysia agenda, Anwar no longer wants anything to do with it.

Tengku Razaleigh Hamzah (Ku Li), too, has abandoned the Save Malaysia campaign and no longer wants anything to do with it as well. According to DAP, Ku Li was the person behind the vote of no confidence planned for October last year.

Ku Li tried to get around 30 Barisan Nasional Members of Parliament to combine with the opposition Members of Parliament to vote Najib out of office. However, they failed to get the required 112 votes and instead Lim Kit Siang was suspended from Parliament for six months.

This is the second time this vote of no confidence exercise has failed. The first time was in September 2008. At that time they were trying to oust Abdullah and Ku Li was supposed to deliver 30 Barisan Nasional Members of Parliament to support the opposition’s planned vote of no confidence.

Many meetings were held between Anwar’s people and Ku Li and it was agreed that, once Abdullah is ousted, Ku Li would take over as Prime Minister for one term. After that one term Ku Li would retire and hand the post of Prime Minister to Anwar.

The 16th September 2008 change of government did not materialise and neither did the October 2015 one as well. Both exercises failed miserably. The 2008 plan was simpler though. Ku Li would become Prime Minister for just one term and then Anwar would take over.

However, the 2015 plan was a bit more complicated because it involved Mukhriz becoming the Deputy Prime Minister and then in 2020 he would take over as Prime Minister. Anwar now realises that the new plan does not include him and that he would need to remain in jail until 2020 and he would not be able to return to politics until 2025 when he is almost 80 years old.

In fact, the new plan would not include Ku Li as well because there is no way Mahathir can agree to Ku Li taking over as the interim Prime Minister. If Ku Li takes over he will make sure that his people and not Mukhriz takes over as Prime Minister in 2020.

Umno itself is having second thoughts about Mahathir. In the beginning they thought that maybe Mahathir was nyanyuk or senile. Of late, however, Mahathir is being equated to Nero, the mad Emperor of Rome who fiddled while Rome burned. The talk amongst Umno leaders is that Mahathir is prepared to ‘burn’ Umno, like he once did in 1987-1988, if his son does not become Prime Minister.
