Foreign help: It’s sedition, say Umno veterans

(Bernama) – Veteran Umno members are calling for action to be taken against former Prime Minister, Dr Mahathir Mohamad under the Sedition Act for his statement about the need for foreign interference in the country’s administration.

Dr Mahathir had gone overboard, said Mustapha Yaakub, secretary of the Umno Veterans Club. His statement was a clear indication that he was desperate in his attempts to overthrow the Prime Minister, Najib Razak.

Yesterday, in an interview with The Weekend Australian newspaper, Dr Mahathir had said that without foreign pressure, there was little hope of Najib resigning.

Mustapha said Umno veterans did not want the government to compromise on matters affecting the stability of the country. “We cannot allow any citizen to sabotage their own country. There can be no consideration and compromise about the country’s dignity,” he said in a statement today.

Mustapha said Dr Mahathir, a former Umno president, had been willing to swallow his own words and cast aside his principles, as at one time he hated foreign interference in the affairs of the nation.

“Clearly he has double standards. He did not want foreign interference during his time, but he himself is working to get foreign powers to bring Najib down. This shows he is facing an internal conflict, between being rational and emotional,” he said.
