Sarawak polls: PKR, DAP heading for clash in five seats

Baru Bian

(The Star) – Pakatan Harapan partners PKR and DAP look set to face each other in at least two or three seats if they remain unwilling to a compromise of seat distribution before nomination on Apr 25.

Sarawak PKR chairman Baru Bian (pic) said there were clashes in about five seats based on DAP’s list of 29 constituencies announced on Saturday.

The overlapping seats are Mambong, Simanggang, Ngemah, Murum and Mulu.

In particular, Baru said PKR was not willing to concede Mambong, Simanggang and Mulu as the party believed its candidates stood a good chance of winning.

“Our candidates have been working hard on the ground for the past few years. We are prepared for three-cornered fights in these two or three seats if we cannot reach a solution,” he told The Star on Sunday.

However, he said, there was still room for negotiations and hoped the matter could be resolved before nomination day.

As such, he said, PKR would announce its candidates later in the week, probably on Saturday, when party president Datuk Seri Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail is due in Kuching.

Baru said the allocation of seats discussed at national level was not in line with what had been decided at state level.
