Letter suggesting link between Phang to Penang Govt surfaces
The letter apparently contradicts Phang’s claim in her SD that she did not have any dealings with Penang Government.
(FMT) – A leaked letter, purportedly linking businesswoman Phang Li Koon and Penang Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng via the Penang Development Corp (PDC), has been uploaded online. (READ HERE)
Phang recently made headlines after she sold her bungalow to Lim below the prevailing market price.
The letter, allegedly signed by Phang as director of Magnificent Emblem Sdn Bhd, is apparently a proposal for a project worth between RM25 million and RM30 million and is addressed to the PDC.
PDC is 100% owned by the Penang state government and Lim is the PDC chairman. The DAP secretary-general is also the chairman of PDC’s tender board.
The leaked letter, uploaded on Malaysia Today, casts doubts over Phang’s statutory declaration – made in March – that she had no business dealings with the Penang Government.
The picture of the document was also accompanied by another letter from a “DAP Insider”, who claimed the project was initially awarded to Magnificent Emblem and a letter of award was issued by PDC to Phang in April 2014.
The letter of award is believed to be in the possession of the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission after its raid on the PDC.
The “DAP Insider” claimed that after receiving the letter of award, Magnificent Emblem wrote back to change the terms of the award significantly, but due to compliance and procurement issues, the letter of award had to be cancelled.
The “DAP Insider” also challenged Penang state executive councillor for Local Government, Traffic Management and Flood Mitigation Chow Kon Yeow to deny the authenticity of the letter from Phang and disputed the contention that the PDC did not initially award the first tender to Magnificent Emblem at a meeting which Lim had chaired.
