First blood drawn in Sarawak as DAP, PKR clash in Batu Kitang
(MMO) – Sarawak DAP today made good on its threat to put one of its candidates in the Batu Kitang seat to fight PKR, after seat negotiations failed between the two Pakatan Harapan allies.
At the kick-off to the 11th Sarawak polls today, the party filed nomination papers for Isa Aziz Marido in the seat that was initially allocated to PKR, going against an agreement reached by leaders of both parties at the national level.
Isa is expected to face PKR’s Voon Shiak Ni and Barisan Nasional’s (BN) Lo Khere Chiang and possibly two other candidates.
When asked by reporters, Isa Aziz explained that he was told by the party to contest in Batu Kitang, not Stakan as previously announced.
“I am blur why i am asked to go to Batu Kitang. I am not sure whether it has something to do with PKR,” he said.
Just yesterday, DAP’s Sarawak chief Chong Chieng Jen gave his counterparts in Sarawak PKR a “last call” warning to honour the agreement on seat distribution made by their national leaders earlier this month.
“Honour the agreement or else we will take Batu Kitang from them,” he told a press conference.
