Too much drama from the opposition

Basically they have learned from their ‘Drama Queen’, Anwar Ibrahim. Everything they do is one big drama. They buy a ticket to Sabah and Sarawak and when they are denied entry they blow the issue up. Instead, they should congratulate Sabah and Sarawak for enforcing their autonomy.

NO HOLDS BARRED

Raja Petra Kamarudin

The Sarawakians are holding the Malayans to ransom

Mariam Mokhtar, The Ant Daily

It is a sad and bitter fact that the people of Malaya are held to ransom by their cousins in Sarawak.

So, how can one convince the Sarawak electorate that they hold their own destiny in their hands?

Equally, how do you tell Sarawakians that they can free the Malayans from the tyranny of the Umno Baru rule in Malaya?

If only the Sarawak people knew the depth of suffering of the Malayan people. Sarawak is BN’s safe deposit…but who will tell the Sarawak people not to vote BN, especially when goodies and handouts rain from the sky, once every five years, before a general election or a snap election?

If you earn RM300 per month, and you are given RM100, when you attend a BN ceramah, this “gift” is a king’s ransom. No “ifs”. No “buts”.

It is no secret that The Ant Daily is pro-opposition and anti-government. The Ant Daily is honest enough to not hide the fact that it hates Umno and all those Malays, Chinese, Indians, etc., associated with Umno or Barisan Nasional. And, to a certain extent, from the articles it carries and the comments posted by readers, The Ant Daily and many of its followers are also anti-Islam as well.

In a civil society it is no crime being anti-anything. That is your God-given right. Even in so-called ‘advanced’ societies such as the UK, US, France, Germany, and so on, there are many people who are anti-something or another. So The Ant Daily is free to be anti-whatever it wants just as long as they are clear about what they stand for and not pretend to be ‘independent’ when actually they are not.

Mariam Mokhtar, as an example, the person who wrote the piece above, is pro-opposition and she hates Umno and Barisan Nasional to an obsession. She is an active member of ‘Friends of Pakatan UK’ and her one and only ambition is to see Pakatan take over the government and rule Malaysia till the end of time. However, Mariam needs to be a bit more clearer about what she means by: free the Malayans from the tyranny of the Umno Baru rule in Malaya. Maybe she should look up what the word tyranny means and explain how that word applies to Malaysia. Does she mean tyranny due to the fact that Muslims are not allowed to leave Islam?

The footnote in that article is: “Mariam Mokhtar is a Malaysian who dares to speak the truth”. That is stretching the imagination a bit because ‘truth’ means different things to different people. I mean, to Christians, ‘the truth’ is that Jesus is the Son of God and all those who follow Jesus will be forgiven while, to Muslims, ‘the truth’ is that Muhammad is the last Prophet/Messenger of God and Muhammad’s miracle is the Qur’an.

Both are truths according to each who see them as truth but both definitely cannot be the truth. Only one can be true while the other has to be false (some would say both could be false). So be very careful when you claim to be the propagator of the truth because the truth is very subjective. And an intelligent writer would know this, unless that writer is not being truthful.

If Sarawak, Sabah, and Malaya came together to form Malaysia, then these three nations should be equals…but why are Sarawak and Sabah treated as states, and not on equal terms with Malaya? This is state sanctioned bullying and abuse of power.

Now, what precisely does Mariam mean by that statement? If she is talking about the 18-point and 20-point agreements respectively, then that is an issue that is being hotly debated for some time now. Rhetoric is fine. If, however, Mariam has concrete proposals, then let us hear them.

For example, lawyers from Sabah and Sarawak can practice in ‘Malaya’ but ‘Malayan’ lawyers cannot do the same in Sabah and Sarawak. The police chiefs in Sabah and Sarawak are classified as Commissioners (and have flags on their cars) while police chiefs in Malaya are classified merely as CPOs.

Only Sabahans can contest seats in Sabah and become the Chief Minister and Governor of Sabah. And the same goes for Sarawak. In Malaya, there are no such rules. Outsiders can contest in any of the Malayan states and even become its Menteri Besar, Chief Minister or Governor.

And none of the Malayan states can ban you from entering their state while Sabah and Sarawak have control over immigration and can decide who can and cannot be allowed into Sabah and Sarawak. That shows Sabah and Sarawak and not at par with any of the Malayan states and but are above them.

If the North-South Expressway in Malaya connects Perlis to Johore, it means that Malayans enjoy good infrastructure and easier development…but what is causing the delay in the Pan-Borneo Highway? Its construction is like a never-ending saga.

That is a very unfair statement and shows the shallowness of Mariam. Building an expensive superhighway is more about economics than politics. Someone has to pay for the billions you are going to spend and if you cannot recover that money from the highway users then the taxpayers have to pay. Even if you charge toll you need to calculate the expected traffic flow and whether the traffic is enough (without needing to raise the toll charges to an exorbitant rate to make up for the low traffic).

In the UK we do not pay toll (the only toll is at the Birmingham by-pass but then you can use the alternative toll-free by-pass). So the taxpayers pay for the highways even if they do not use them. And we pay a minimum of 20% tax when we earn our money and another 20% in VAT when we spend it.

Malaysians grumble even if the tax is 5% and the GST is 6%. Yet they want this, that and the other free-of-charge. So who is going to pay for the RM27 billion toll-free Pan-Borneo Highway, the highway users or the Malayan taxpayers? And then the opposition will start saying that the government is ‘buying’ the voters in Sabah and Sarawak by giving them an expensive toll-free highway when those in Malaya have to pay toll to use the highways.

If Adenan Satem, the chief minister of Sarawak, is convinced that BN is good for Sarawak, he should have no fear about Opposition politicians…but why is he banning them from entering Sarawak? Is he on more shaky ground than he would like us to believe?

That is called autonomy. Sabah and Sarawak decide who can and cannot enter their states. Is this not what you want, autonomy for Sabah and Sarawak? And it is not just the opposition leaders who are barred from entering Sabah and Sarawak. Many government supporters are also barred.

But then the government supporters who are barred are told they are barred so they do not embarrass themselves by still attempting to enter Sabah and Sarawak. They know they are going to be turned away and denied entry.

The opposition leaders, however, even when they know for a fact they are barred from entering Sabah and Sarawak, still take a flight to Sabah and Sarawak knowing that they are going to be turned away and denied entry.

Why do the government supporters not attempt to enter Sabah and Sarawak after knowing that they are going to be denied entry while the opposition leaders still stubbornly fly to Sabah and Sarawak even when they know they are going to be denied entry?

The answer is simple. The opposition leaders know they will not be allowed into Sabah and Sarawak so they want to make a big drama out of it. They still fly to Sabah and Sarawak and then when they are turned away (as they know they will) they make a big brouhaha out of the matter and act the victim.

If the Nangka BN representative does not condone divisive race and religion politics, he should keep his ceramahs clear of the topics which are typical of BN politicians…but why was Dr Annuar Rapaee’s speech in Sibu littered with references to Islam? Why did he backpedal furiously, when he was exposed?

Now this is Mariam’s most interesting comment yet. What does she mean by Dr Annuar Rapaee’s speech in Sibu littered with references to Islam? Littered with references to Islam? Is the Qur’an littered with references to Islam as well? Only The Ant Daily would gleefully publish an article with statements such as littered with references to Islam.

So, need I say more?
