ANC and Pakatan are scattering in the wind

So, good luck to Mahathir’s 1.2 million signatures — fakes or otherwise. Some of the rulers even feel that this is the best time for Mahathir to suffer his payback for what he did to them more than 30 years ago in the 1980s. I can imagine the rulers giggling when they hear the news that Mahathir is going to send them 1.2 million signatures in the hope that the Agong will sack Najib.

THE CORRIDORS OF POWER

Raja Petra Kamarudin

Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad wants just one candidate from the opposition to contest the Sungai Besar and Kuala Kangsar by-elections to make it a straight or one-on-one fight against Barisan Nasional. And Mahathir does not mind if PAS contests those two seats just as long as Barisan Nasional is defeated. (SEE THE VIDEO BELOW).

Selangor Menteri Besar Azmin Ali is also agreeable to this proposal and he actually applauded the ‘direction’ that Mahathir is taking (a straight or one-on-one fight against Barisan Nasional). After all, Pakatan Harapan is in alliance with Mahathir’s ANC (Anti-Najib Campaign) while PAS is in alliance with Pakatan Harapan in the Selangor State Government, although outside Selangor PAS is considered Pakatan Harapan’s enemy.

Both Mahathir and Azmin can agree to PAS contesting the Sungai Besar and Kuala Kangsar by-elections to make sure that there are no three- or four-corner fights so that Barisan Nasional can be defeated. Basically, Barisan Nasional must be defeated never mind who defeats them, whether PAS or Pakatan Harapan.

Anwar Ibrahim, however, is not agreeable to this. He is unhappy that some of his Pakatan Harapan comrades are too intimate with Mahathir. The ‘Save Malaysia’ campaign was initially supposed to include a ‘Free Anwar’ campaign. Mahathir, however, does not agree to that so the ‘Save Malaysia’ campaign no longer includes a ‘Free Anwar’ campaign.

Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail, Anwar’s wife and the President of PKR, refuses to have anything to do with the ANC or the ‘Save Malaysia’ campaign since it no longer includes Anwar’s freedom as part of the campaign. However, Azmin and the rest of Pakatan Harapan, such as DAP and Amanah, have no problems whether Anwar’s freedom is or is not included in the campaign.

Lim Guan Eng supports the ANC and agrees to Mahathir as the new de facto Opposition Leader. But Guan Eng does not agree to PAS contesting the two by-elections. He wants Mat Sabu’s Amanah to contest those by-elections even if it results in a three- or four-corner contest and Barisan Nasional wins those seats.

Rafizi Ramli is not happy with what he considers Azmin ‘selling Anwar out’ in favour of Mahathir as the new de facto Opposition Leader. So Rafizi has discussed this matter with his inner circle and has launched the ‘oust Azmin Ali’ campaign. Rafizi was, after all, by his own admission, the mastermind of the ‘oust Khalid Ibrahim’ campaign a.k.a. the ‘Kajang Move’. So he has a lot of experience in ousting a Selangor Menteri Besar.

Mahathir, in turn, claims to have collected more than 1.2 million signatures to a petition he is going to send to His Majesty the Agong. Of course, while Mahathir wants Prime Minister Najib Tun Razak to prove that the allegations against him are not true, Mahathir himself is not able to prove that the 1.2 million signatures are not bogus.

Even more ironical is that Mahathir has always been a fiercely anti-monarchy republican and has for decades been accusing the monarchy of betraying the country and of selling out the Malays and so on, just one step short of saying that the rulers should be cited for treason.

Mahathir says Umno saved the country in 1946 and if not because of Umno the Raja-Raja Melayu would have ended up like the Raja-Raja India. Hence, if left to the rulers, Malaysia would have been sold. And that was why in the late-1980s/early 1990s Mahathir removed the powers of the Agong — because the rulers are corrupt and worthless.

But now Mahathir is depending on those same corrupt and worthless rulers in his attempt to try to oust Prime Minister Najib Razak. I sincerely never thought I would live to see the day that Mahathir grovels at the feet of the rulers by asking them to interfere in Malaysian politics.

Probably if the Agong does join the ANC, like Mahathir hopes, then in future Mahathir can use this as the excuse to abolish the Monarchy and turn Malaysia into a Republic — on grounds that the Agong interfered in Malaysian politics by sacking the Prime Minister.

My feedback is that the rulers are very cautious about showing any support to the ANC because the man heading the ANC is the same man who accused the rulers of all sorts of things. It is like the story of the scorpion and Sang Kancil. After helping the scorpion cross the river it then stings and kills Sang Kancil. And did not Anwar say to beware of the serpent that stings that wears the crown (READ HERE)?
