Anwar warns PKR about Citizens’ Declaration, Dr M’s tricks

(FMT) – A post on the Penang PKR Youth Facebook page has raised questions on the future involvement of some PKR leaders in the Citizens’ Declaration launched early this year.
The post, highlighted by Malaysia Today, alleged that jailed PKR de facto leader Anwar Ibrahim was unhappy with the “excessive” involvement of some PKR leaders in the Citizens’ Declaration.
According to the post, Anwar relayed his concerns through the party’s president Wan Azizah Wan Ismail and several other leaders, who brought up the issue at the party’s recent central political bureau meeting.
“Anwar penned a long letter that was read at the meeting, in which he regretted the excessive involvement of PKR and some of its leaders in the Citizens’ Declaration.”
In his letter, Anwar also allegedly warned the party’s leadership to be wary of the tricks of former prime minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad and former finance minister Daim Zainuddin.

The Citizens’ Declaration, which is being pushed by the Save Malaysia movement is calling for the resignation of Prime Minister Najib Razak and for various institutional reforms in the country.
PKR leaders who have pledged support for the Citizens’ Declaration so fair are Deputy President Mohamed Azmin Ali, Secretary-General Rafizi Ramli and Vice President Tian Chua.
Anwar had initially expressed support for efforts to remove Najib from office and had openly lent his support to friends in civil society, political parties and individuals, including Mahathir, who was pushing for the PM’s resignation.
Later however, Anwar said the Citizens’ Declaration had failed to address the issue of institutional reforms to push for a change in leadership and that the country’s future should be determined by its people, not its “elite.”
Last Friday, Mahathir said over 1.27 million people had signed the Citizens’ Declaration. He also announced that he would seek an audience with the King to hand over the signed petitions.
