Husam defends Mahathir, Citizens’ Declaration
Anwar letter’s shows he does not oppose the declaration, says Husam Musa.
(FMT) – Former PAS vice-president Husam Musa, who was recently sacked by the Islamic party, has defended former premier Dr Mahathir Mohammad, saying the Opposition pact is stronger with him in tow.
Husam said Mahathir should “train” the Opposition to work together and reach their goals.
“Mahathir should be the coach to the Opposition. The Opposition is stronger with Mahathir around,” he told reporters after the event “Dialogue with Husam” at the Kuala Lumpur-Selangor Chinese Assembly Hall here last night.
Husam was responding to Mahathir’s comment in Alor Setar yesterday that the Opposition would never be able to win any election due to the lack of unity in their coalition.
The Salor state assemblymen also commented on former Opposition chief Anwar Ibrahim’s leaked letter to PKR urging Opposition members to tread carefully when dealing with Mahathir.
Husam said in the letter, Anwar was merely concerned over the direction of the reform agenda in the Citizens’ Declaration.
“I am confident that Anwar will not make enemies of the 1.27 million signatories of the declaration.
“We understand Anwar’s concerns, but in the Citizens’ Declaration, the first item is for the removal of (Prime Minister) Najib (Razak) but point number two, three and four are on reform,” he said.
Husam also called for citizens to stand behind the declaration and not to worry about Mahathir as the Opposition leaders would and had always fought for reform.
“If Mahathir leaves the fight after Najib has stepped down, it is okay. It is up to us to continue our struggle.
” The Citizens’ Declaration is like a vessel, we can’t stop people from leaving after reaching the first port, but it does not mean we won’t continue sailing until we reach our destination,” he said.
